This offer of $1.00 Silver U.S. Coinage featuring face value dimes presents an excellent opportunity to procure silver at a low price. First minted in 1796, U.S. dimes have featured the Franklin D. Roosevelt design since 1946. These pre-1965 dimes have 90 percent silver content with a weight of 0.715 ounces. Although these face value dimes may be somewhat worn or blemished, they retain the intrinsic value of their silver content.
The Obverse
The obverse design, created by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John R. Sinnock, is an image of Franklin D. Roosevelt facing left. Roosevelt’s likeness was chosen as the new design to replace the Mercury dime to honor Roosevelt’s contribution of helping found the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, later called the March of Dimes, and to honor this former president after his death. To the left and above the effigy of Roosevelt is the word Liberty, and below and to the left is the motto “In God We Trust.” To the right and below are the year of issue and the mint mark. Sinnock’s initials, JS, are shown below Roosevelt’s neck.
The Reverse
The reverse of this face value dime shows a torch symbolizing liberty, an olive branch symbolizing peace, and an oak branch symbolizing strength. Around the top of the reverse is United States of America, and below is the denomination One Dime. The motto E. Pluribus Unum is displayed as if behind the olive branch, torch and oak branch.
